The Seeling

The Seeling1[SEE·luhng] is a false deity also known as Tole2[TOH·lay] or Sky-Healer. It occasionally appears to its believers in a mask of damp river-clay sculpted to a vaguely feminine face bordered by celestial motifs; without the mask, its body is covered by a white shroud. It hides its true appearance at all times, as its limbs and face both constantly—and grotesquely—weep sap.

Early life

Tole grew as a creature-spirit inhabiting a small grove east of what is now Lora-Quielle. As a dryadine manifestation, it maintained a symbiotic relationship with the environment of the area.

Fragmented records from humans of this period suggest that it may have been treated as a minor deity spirit of the woods and received offerings accordingly.

WAKE UP / AND OPEN YOUR EYES / IT IS ALL A DREAM / MORE OR LESS.

IS THIS THE BEGINNING? OR THIS? MAYBE IT’S THIS.

Trivia

  • Time has made it unclear how much of its damage is self-inflicted.
  • If it spends enough time in a singular place, its body will become rooted there and begin growing. It refuses to allow this.
    • Thus, its body has never healed.
    • It’s avoiding this because attachment to a place is never only physical.
