velpone

The term velpone1Occasionally spelled ‘velpon.’ refers to a style of music originating from one of the settlements that eventually became Chamiska.

The genre is characterized by the use of a two-measure repetitive beat in the melody or accompaniment, and the use of non-instrument percussive elements.2Popular ones include kettles, rocks, sticks, shoes, and utensils. While the music may sometimes feature clapping, stamping, or similar noises, these are not characteristic of velpone.
